4GH RANCH HEADQUARTERS
4GH is a private cattle ranch in western Oklahoma. An old horse barn needed to be replaced with a more functional facility. The new barn is intended to be used for everyday equipment storage as well as social functions. On the west side of the main two-story barn, there is a large covered porch that faces both the family residence and a renovated guest house. The porch is a gathering area with an outdoor fireplace. Inside the barn are several seating areas and a large open bay with clerestory windows, running from north to south. The bay area is also used for equipment storage. On the east side of the main barn is a kitchen, a restroom, a workout room, and a storage room.
The owner's family was very involved in the design and managed all the construction. Locally sourced materials were used in building the facility as much as possible. All the wood, both structural and trim, was milled from timber that was harvested from their ranch. Much of the interior, including some fixtures, is made from re-purposed materials. The floor is concrete with a local river rock used as the aggregate. The floor was ground after it was poured to reveal a beautiful aggregate pattern.
